Extreme branding in fiction

There is nothing better than a good biography and there is nothing worse than a book which poses as biography, has a smattering of truth in it and then sells itself as fact – pseudobiography, usually with conversation. We are all wary of the peddling of lies by the media, by politicians, by financial advisers and by realtors. But we are not wary enough of the invention of false history by writers of fiction. Perhaps the reason is that self-interest is not so obviously at play and, in seeking to be entertained, we are off our guard. Moreover writers are not so much economical with the truth but rather over-generous with a beguiling and manufactured truth. We forget that authors are generally trying to write books that sell and their publishers are leaning on them to do this. Pseudobiography (with conversation) is a great vehicle for sales.

Of course all books, except way-out fantasy, are somehow inserted into a true world, past, present or future. The question is, how true does it have to be and how far do authors have to go out of their way into misleading you that their story is a reflection of a real world? They go very far, it seems, in some cases – especially if the story line is weak or the subject barely worthy of even a pseudobiography. The illusion of reality is often created by a barrage of facts which lull the reader into a false sense of security. An image of an all-knowing writer looms large from the pages of such books. Contact with the real world is often made through brand names and a false air of authenticity created by branding products, cars, guns, the exact location of this or that secret agency, expensive clothes (always expensive!) and innumerable other tricks culled, one suspects, in five minutes from the internet. Mind you, it is not always like this. Product branding does not feature in the best modern works such as Philip Pullman’s or Roald Dahl’s books or in Harry Potter. Harry does not use Boss deodorant or Hermione Chanel no 5. Nor does the Dahl’s Big Friendly Giant caper about in Gucci boots.

But there is something else called ‘extreme branding’ and it is much worse than mere product branding. Extreme branding is the kidnapping of an historical character and branding her (say) in your novel (or pseudobiography) as a misjudged or forgotten heroine, recreating her life with little respect for history. The whole book becomes a vehicle for perpetrating the brand name of the heroine. Recent examples of extreme branding are attempts to show the importance of Galileo’s daughter or of the ‘other Boleyn’ or the historically false portrayal of the last empress of China or attempts to represent Mileva Einstein, Einstein’s first wife, as a significant contributor to Einstein’s work. This is not history expressed in fiction but fiction posing as history. Extreme branding is an irresponsible, manipulative practice and a pity too, because proper history could be read by everyone with pleasure. The three volumes of the History of the Crusades, by Runciman, read like an epic novel while still being a work of history. The Arabian Nights are another form of history, history by example. These stories recreate the historical atmosphere of early Islamic society by telling stories which illustrate life. These and other works, like the classics of Chinese literature, for example the Heroes of the Marsh, bask in being stories but inform you in depth of the society in which they are embedded. Nothing could be further removed from the extreme branding of many bestsellers.

So what can we say for ourselves as writers when we invent people, things, places, events? Are we just grand liars? How can we excuse ourselves for creating towns that do not exist, gangsters who have never lived, heroes and heroines who strut about only in the pages of our books, when they are so many real heroes and heroines – and gangsters? Are we trying to rip apart the fabric of society to show its inner workings? (sounds like a quote but I can’t find it on Google). Or are we just having a good time playing with the world as if it was made of Lego, taking it apart and putting it together again in a slightly different shape?

If you write books for young adults, as I do, you are writing for an age group who will remember a great deal. Think of what you personally know by the way of facts; I am sure that you will find that a very great many of these facts were brought to you and got stuck in your head between the ages of 13 and 20. So it is especially important not to mislead, to distort and to lie in books for people in that age group. So what rules do I lay down for myself? Please realise that I do not want to be prescriptive – you may well have a very different way of looking at things and I should be pleased to hear about it.

I am governed by an overriding rule that one should try to recreate the consciousness of the times of which you write, without propagating the falsehood that the story told really took place or that the people in it are real individuals in history. Even locations and geography may be distorted – though preferably not with the abandon of that remarkable film of Robin Hood which showed him one moment on the Roman Wall and in the next pan on the cliffs of Dover (causing much laughter among a British audience). At all events, writing of the period at the end of the 16th century in France, as I have done, means that you must enter under the skin of the people of that time, try to find out how they think and to discover what preoccupies them, what are their motives, what their priorities. You must judge where power lies and the action must echo the social relations which existed then. Of course it is no different from writing of modern times in these respects but there is much less material to go on, with more pitfalls. So you must try to create the framework. Either you can, like Victor Hugo in the Hunchback of Notre Dame, laboriously erect a framework through a wonderful, expansive description of mediaeval Paris, or you can let it self-organise from the fragments of life which you describe. But gel it must into something pretty sturdy, because a flimsy structure cannot bear a great story. Within this framework, if truly representative of the period of which you write, you can weave any story that you wish and it will have credibility however zany it may be.

Naturally you have to pay attention to detail sometimes, as well as paint the picture with a broad brush. You want to avoid obvious anachronisms. It would stretch the patience of your public if you put the Roman Legions on bicycles or the Vikings on motorbikes (though this last is less of anachronism than giving them horned helmets, purely in terms of how many centuries your are wrong by!). Very many things which would have taken trips to the library a few years ago can be rapidly checked on the internet. I remember checking if it is okay to write about etchings in 1599 and I needed to discover what sort of guns they had then. I also remember finding the coat of arms for the de Montfort family in five seconds flat, without having to write a letter to the College of Arms. But detail of this sort, so easy to acquire, should not be there for its own sake, as in novels which brand half the objects mentioned. And certainly you want to avoid the accumulation of a mass of irrelevant detail – even if it is correct. Keep to the minimum which is necessary. Read an Agatha Christie: there is nothing superfluous there. What is more, I try to follow the advice that I give to my own PhD students: keep your thesis short. The more you write, the more chance of making some unnecessary mistake and irritating a reader – your examiner in the case of a PhD student! Extreme branding apart, many books (including mine) get too long – as this article is in danger of becoming.

HERMANN HESSE- The world was full of friends back them, as life was light to me but now for the fog has come and no one can I see. HT EDITORIAL Writers are not flag-carriers of a nation. They are individuals who write. HU JINTAO All countries, regardless of their size, wealth, or strength, should be treated equal and different civilizations and social systems of the world ought to pursue common development by seeking common points while reserving differences. HU SHIH Even the absolute universality of the law of causality does not necessarily limit a person’s freedom, because the law of causality not only enables him to explain the past and predict the future, but also encourages him to use his intelligence to create new causes and attain new results. HUA HU CHING There are two paths leading to oneness with the Tao. The first is acceptance. Affirm everyone and everything. Extend your goodwill and virtue in every direction. Embrace all things as part of the Harmonious Oneness. The second path is that of; denial. Recognise that everything you see and think is a falsehood, an illusion. Peel off the veils, and you will arrive at the Oneness. The two paths are entirely different, but they will deliver you to the same place: spontaneous awareness of the Great Oneness. HUAI NAN TZU There is nothing in the world easier than goodness and nothing more difficult than depravity. By ‘goodness’ is meant tranquility of mind, undisturbed by cupidity. By ‘depravity’ is meant a grasping spirit with many cravings. He, who is satisfied with the simple needs of his nature, refusing the superfluous delights of the world, will not be tempted by any seductions. He, who follows the law of his nature, will preserve his soul, without any inward conflicts. Hence the statement, ‘It is easy to be good’. Clambering up city walls, scaling dangerous heights, thieving the official keys, forging and stealing official money, rebelling and murdering, lying and bearing false witness, are acts contrary to human nature. Hence the saying, ‘It is difficult to be bad.’ HUANG PO Do not permit the events of your daily life to bind you, but never withdraw yourself from them. IDRIES SHAH People tend to form opinions about people, things and ideas, only on the basis of the information and prejudice which they already have. If you show, say, a camera to a child or a primitive man, they might think that it was a monster. What people need is information, more often than they realise. This is the reason why generations of Sufis have laboured to broaden the basis of information and experience available to man. With information and experience, |man may make more reliable judgments about people, ideas and things. The less information he has, the less likely he is to be able to understand. To try to teach anyone who is in a condition of insufficient information is futile, never attempted by real teachers, and wasteful of time and energy to both parties. Scottish rugby: Fever pitch

Saturday, March 20th, 2010

IF TIMING is everything in comedy it’s also proving pretty important in the field of sporting endeavour and Richie Vernon has yet to master it. The Glasgow player exploded on to the international scene during the autumn Tests with some superb displays off the bench, but the big breakaway looks set to miss the Six Nations, or at least the start of it, after blood tests last

Wednesday proved he had contracted glandular fever.

This can sideline a player for anything from three weeks to a year and obviously Vernon is hoping that his dose is at the bottom end of that scale. As a one-time medical student, the Glasgow man knows that glandular fever causes the spleen to expand and, if he returns to action too early, there is a danger it will burst.

It’s a huge loss for Scotland and a blow to coach Andy Robinson, although at least he has less of a selection headache when it comes to picking his No.8, which may be a blessing of sorts.

Brian Moore once claimed that Robinson was a poor selector and Jake White has stated that 85 per cent of his job with the Boks was picking the right team. You have to hope one of them is wrong.

The thinking is that Robinson must he better off in Scotland where there are far fewer players to pick from and therefore fewer potential pitfalls. One of England’s main strengths is also one of their weaknesses the sheer number of quality players available to the coach can be a bit bewildering. How many times do the men in white actually field their strongest XV? Not when Ayoola Erinle shows up in the midfield, that’s for sure.

Martin Johnson announced his Six Nations squad last week and Robinson will follow suit on Wednesday with what is expected to be a 32-strong group of players or, put another way, two players for each position with three scrum-halves and hookers.

In the outside backs it’s more a matter of who to leave out than who to include. Robinson likes muscular players who can win the contacts so the Lamont brothers will be there because of that bias and the Evans brothers will get the nod despite it. Simon Danielli continues to impress for Ulster, Chris Paterson marches towards his 100th cap and Hugo Southwell proved his versatility yesterday afternoon. These are all old heads. If there is to be a surprise it could take the form of Edinburgh’s uncapped utility back Jim Thompson, who has impressed in his recent outings.

In the absence of Euan Murray, the front row almost picks itself. The only real question is whether Gloucester’s Ally Dickinson gets the nod ahead of Edinburgh’s Kyle Traynor to fight Allan Jacobsen for the loosehead spot. In the second row, youngster Richie Gray is a live possibility to make his Scotland debut off the bench.

The third row is intriguing, with Jonnie Beattie the favourite to fill the No.8 shirt if only because he is the last man standing. Simon Taylor is injured and, in any event, made himself unavailable for the autumn Tests. It’s not clear whether he wants to participate in the Six Nations should his injured bicep allow but that is academic right now.

Ally Hogg underwent surgery on his hip in recent weeks and Beattie’s flatmate Vernon will be unbeatable at Call of Duty by the time is out of his sick bed. Until Dave Callam can depose the world’s shortest No.8 in the form of pocket rocket Roddy Grant he can’t hope to supplant Beattie in the Scotland No.8 shirt.

With Jason White breaking a leg, the No.6 place is a straight fight between Alasdair Strokosch and the much-improved Kelly Brown. The Melrose man looked out of sorts at times last season, perhaps unhappy at being shuffled about the back row, but he was arguably the best forward on the pitch in the twin derby matches against Edinburgh and he is right back in the running.

In similar fashion, John Barclay may not have things all his own way. The Glasgow man is ahead in the rankings right now but he must feel the hot breath of Ross Rennie on his shoulder. The Edinburgh flanker has watched more rugby than he has played over the past two years but has shown enough in two comeback games to suggest that he might make an appearance at the back end of this Six Nations tournament.

Much will depend on the medics. If they insist that his gammy knee needs more time then Robinson will surely grant that wish. Rennie has waited for two long years for a return to Test match rugby his one and only cap came against Ireland in 2008 he can wait a little longer if needs be.

As usual much of Robinson’s focus will be on the Scottish midfield, where his main concern is the same as it ever was, picking the right playmaker. Phil Godman is a sure thing and Robinson will probably want back-up in the form of another specialist, either Dan Parks or his young understudy Ruaridh Jackson, who had a rare start against the Dragons on Friday night.

While Parks bossed the 1872 derby matches against Edinburgh, he remains a one-dimensional player in attack and a liability in defence. Glasgow hide him at full-back when the opposition has the ball, but at international level he would be found out. A barrage of high balls would rain down on Parks at full-back and the Aussie is not the most committed when it comes to retrieving them.

The All Blacks (against France) and Australia (against Wales) proved that it is perfectly possible to play 15-man, running rugby and score tries under the present laws. If Scotland want to develop their game and, especially, their attacking play, they need a fly-half who creates opportunities for his outside backs by playing flat and keeping the defence honest. At his best, Jackson does just that.

When he comes to picking the midfield to face France, Robinson has a tricky task. He must choose between three fly-halves (Parks, Godman, Jackson), three inside centres (Morrison, De Luca and Grove) and four outside centres (De Luca, Grove, Cairns and Evans). If my maths is right (Grove and De Luca obviously can’t play in both positions at the same time) that amounts to a total of 32 different midfield combinations for the national coach to ponder. He may have fewer selection decisions to make than he did as England boss, but Robinson still has some serious head scratching to do before 7 February.

Planet – Mars, Type- extrovert. Aries, key sentence is I am or competitiveness,

As far as he is concerns, he is the only one in the Universe, and the centre of the world, the entire world should circling and spinning around him.

Well this guy is quite an Egoist, but lets dont forget he has a lot of feelings, sentiments, and emotions, he is a very worm person and could be generous too, but I am first is his motto.

If you are meeting some one on the street or in some gathering, and he is smiling at you, shaking your hand till all your body is trembling, adding a pat on your shoulder, while staring directly in to your eyes, than my friends you should know you meet a Aries. This guy is full of self-confident and independence, and above all a lot of leadership.

The Aries is one of the most initiative and entrepreneur types in the zodiac, if he is settling down and making his mind about a project nothing will stop him until he fulfil his will, he is locking his radar on the target and like a pit bull hanging on until complete fulfilment, he has a very short fuse he must have his desire right away.

Since no one is listening, between us, this guy is never doing to much thinking, which means first he is acting and than he is thinking about his activity, all his decision making proses is like a lightening, for good or for worse what ever the out come will be.

Do you want to see an example, enter to the Joseph Jacobs (1890) fairy tale jack and the Beanstalk we have a nice example. Jack did not do too much thinking, he went up, penetrating the giants castle, stealing his goose and running away, Jack showed a lot of guts, a grate deal of enthusiasm but I m sceptical if he did some planing work before his activity.

Yes I forgot to mention since the guy has a short fuse it is not recommended to get him angry this guy can become fury, aggressive cruel and brutal,

Most of the reasons are that he must be the winner in any coast in must be the successor. Along with that after he let his furriest out he is not a revengable and vindictive type (this title we shall live for some one else in the zodiac)

Moreover this is the ultimate adventurer, whats is rely scaring about this guy that he dent know what fear means, as I mention before this is a borne leader a talented manager, excellent officer build-in in his genes.

Our guy is going in his way and any one has to follow, he will fight for his opinions and his truth, if the bystander does not believe that he is going straight, never mind as long as our guy believes he is A-O-K, he doesnt need nighter modesty nor tact .if you dont agree with him that your problem.

I can no longer obey; I have tasted command, and I cannot give it up Napoleon Bonaparte

Taurus

The second sign in the zodiac. , Element Fix, Modality- Earth. Type-Iintroverted.

Ruling planet Venus.

Taurus, key sentence I have which means possessiveness and materialism in a manner that doesnt know the meaning of satisfying.

But on the other hand, if you like to take a look at a Taurus type go to Alan Alexander Milne tale Winnie the Pooh Winnie lives by himself in a tree, tends to be a bit on the slow side, most of all Winnie has a love of honey.

However one of his characteristics is patience another one is stability, this type is never in a hurry, and he has all the he needs or whish.

Once he looked his Radar on a target or task he will accomplish his wish slowly but Shurly with a lot of persistence.

This is a very slow and peaceful type very careful in his doings a lot of tolerance and endurance, almost never gets annoyed or angry, he is looking to remain peaceful you better dont bother him let him stay in peace.

But once you have succussed to get him angry to take him out of his stability, do yourself a favour and get lost, he will run over like a 60 ton Abrams savages and ruthless, no way to stop him.

Late Linda Goodman described this type as the Cliff of Gibraltar with immune and resistant against the weather and time obstacle, nothing can get him.

This is a very earthly type, the best therapy for him is gardening, he is in his best in collecting Real Estate items, those topics are suppling him his peace of mind, we can find many politician artists and generales under this sign.

This type loves comfort and indulgent, he will do almost any thing to make his home looks like a Million dollar in order to impress his gests, he will do anything to impress them and give them five stars hospitality the best of his food and drinks, what he really likes is to sit in a circle with his gests and to feed them with his knowledge and advises.

His weakness is food, and self-indulgent most of this type has many kilos too much, and it is almost impossible for him to do something regarding his weight problem.

Another weakness or virtue is passion, to beauty harmony and aesthetics, here is Venus to blame.

And all about the opposite sex, as much as possible, is the life motto, just doing a long life party for the senses and the sensuality.

Last but not least this type is very very stubborn almost total resistance to change, but try to tell him abut his stubbedness, he wont admit to possess this virtue, this type just believes that he is a very reasonable measured, mature person,

Stubborn like a mule!!! How me?

A business that makes nothing but money is a poor business.

Gemini

Third sign in the zodiac. , Element Mutable, Modality- Air. Type- extrovert.

Ruling planet Mercury.

Gemini key sentence I think. Do you recall the Rabbit at Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland this is the type, he is always busy Im late, Im late this is his motto, this type runs always, all the day, and he doesnt have a clue for what, or were is he running to, but he must be occupied all the time otherwise he will becomes nuts, this type cunt stand the situation to be bored, not to do anything is unacceptable, he must be on the move all the time this can be mentally or physically.

This type is changing masks in the twinkling of an eye, while you are convinced he find some interest in you, showing you sympathy, in a second he is showing you indifference or distaste.

Today his opinion in some matter could be positive and in the next day negative, you dont have the sliced idea how to grab him, schizophrenia? Absolute no, his internal computer is running so fast that for us mortals it seems weird, well mortals thats Mercury the gods messenger.

Gemini is the ultimate sales man, the best marketing director, very intelligent, quick perception, understanding anything in a second, but very very very superficial, knows a little of every thing, must be talking all the time, can express himself in a marvels manner, the best in speech making, a charming small talker.

On second thought he is in his best at the communication / media business, TV, Newspapers, public relations, there all his talents can come in to use in the most ultimate manner.

Did you notice that our broadcaster in an interview dont let their gest to say more than two too tree words, he must do all the talking, to give the answers and to present his knowledgeable opinion, ooohhhh yes he could become a superb politician, he has all the relevant virtues.

And you my friend, be better alert, put all your attention when you are dealing with a Gemini otherwise he will spin you, manipulate you, and he will went to have some sleep in order to give his frayed nerves some rest.

I am so clever that sometimes I don’t understand a single word of what I am saying.

Cancer

Fourth sign in the zodiac. Element Cardinal. Modality- Water. Type- introvert.

Ruling planet Moon.

Cancer key sentence I feel. This type is just eager to wallow in his feelings and senses.

Go to the move to some dramatic love story, look around you, who is crying? But of course al the cancers, they just enjoy it, go to the seashore, if you see a child siting in front the waves and talking to the sea, its a cancer, if you want to hear a yes to every wish you are asking, take this type at full moon in front the moon.

For a nice example lets go to the move Mary Poppins the perfect Nanny, her mission in life is taking care, looking after, the chalderns, she is a borne Cancer.

The most important substance to this type is his family, there he finds his rescue from the threaten world, there near the fire place, or under his geese feathers blanket he finds his peace of mind.

This type may be an obsessive collector, stamps, coins, napkins, an old memory copybook from the class of 1955, you may find a stock of his kinder garden pictures or love letters from his first love in high school.

Yes I forgot, they love to nurse you to mothering you, like a goose to her chicks,

, eat eat it is healthy for you, you just hade a five portion meal, dont forget to take your sweater in the midst of July, change your socks youll get ill. If youre going for four houers journey, this type will pack for you a suitcase, just for any case you might need it.

Moreover, as the female cancer is closing upon you, you cant escape, she just grab you with all her love and pincers, you have hade it my friend.

Once you and your cancer partner become parents, asta la vista you can go to Kamchatka she wont now you are missing, she has her chicks.

Well another point to mention, if this type is not focusing on his feelings, than he is focusing on money and business matters, this is very important for his self – confidence, he will never have, enough, never have sufficient, there is always an inner voice digging, twice a day he takes a look at the stock market whats is going on, how can we go on vacation, the markets are un stable now, no, let postpone it for next month, having saying that while siting in a first class restaurant with a face of an martyr eating caviar and drinking champagne, getting blankness and wanness in front of the menu.

Every portrait that is painted with feeling is a portrait of the artist, not of the sitter.

Leo

Fifth sign in the zodiac. Element Fix. Modality- Fire. Type- extrovert.

Ruling planet Sun.

Leo key sentence I will, just try to oppose him and youll understand right away why he is called the king of the beasts.

Do you recall the Queen of harts in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland this is the type, like a peacock, in second thought he remind my the king in Hans C. Andersen “The Emperor’s New Clothes both of them, pride, arrogant, just dare not to obey.

Although Louis XIV of France, which is called the Sun King was boren under the Virgo sigin, but he simbolize the lion by he saying “I am the State”.

Since Noble obliged every thing is King size his car, his home, his parties and diners. This type must be in the center of every thing, event and matter , you cant miss him he is full with showiness, all the attention must be focused on him, and in return he will bestow from his generosity which he know and do very well.

Leo is a borne leader perfect organizer. He command and order his natives, and they must obey, but the clever vassal let him believe whatever the wishes to believe, and he is doing what ever he likes.

A great deal of actors are Leo borne, since Leo needs the stage for his performance, he needs the spot light directing at him, for the Leo it is needed like air, he is acting always, and all the time, he will start acting as soon as he sees his reflection in the mirror at the mooring while polishing his tooth.

Let me point out this type has a golden hart, he will help to each and any one in need, he doest knows what no means.

When you have the chance to have a conversation in four eyes, you suddenly realize that this type is a very sharp analyzer in the human mankind; he has very sharp senses, and understands his fellow man perfectly.

He will look at you from some upper position down to you, he will talk to you very quietly smoothly softly with a smile and grace, giving you all the credit you may whish, namely go a had lad, try to fool me, catch me if you can.

Do you want to please him, just flatter him, he knows that you are flattering, but he cant resist, it, he enjoys every moment, he doesnt believe you, but he lets you believe he did.

Sixth sign in the zodiac. Element Mutable. Modality – Earth. Type – Introvert.

Ruling planet Chiron.

In order to get a clearer picture of this type lets go to the movies, and now lets go and see the picture Mutiny on the Bounty Vice Admiral William Bligh was an officer of the British Royal Navy and a colonial administrator. He is best known as the “Captain Bligh of Mutiny on the Bounty fame, The mutiny was against his captain’s command Captain Bligh was a harsh disciplinarian, a man of flaring temper, seemingly mindless of the cut of his words on others. His civility, though, returned as quickly as his temper flared. And again to the movies .In the year 1996 Stephen King wrote a novel named The green mile. In the year 1999 Frank Darabont directed the Film in that name, the star in that picture was Tom Hanks, the figure which he is acting and creating there is the ultimate Virgo, He is giving us very clean nice image of an bureaucrat in his best, honest straight, dissent, and human.

This type dont like crowds, youll find this type in a library or laboratories, as an accountancy or some searcher in any academic field, this type is Mr examination, Mr inspection always criticising, may be a judge or very good jurisprudent and legalist, his biggest disadvantage is that he can’t see the forest for the trees.

This type is the ultimate bureaucrat, he invented the system, believe it or not, and he likes to serve, to serve the society.

He was genetically created to be a bureaucrat, created to be a civil servant, to be a civil servant will be the top of his ambitions. Cynicism? , No I mean it, this type functions at his best as he gives a services, he is a very reliable, responsible, trustworthy, strict and pedant person.

Moreover usually this a very modest shy person, he doesnt like any favours from any one, he has a very conservative approach to life, especially regarding money, money is a serous matter which must be handled with care.

This type internalise his feelings, he wont let you see what is going on in him, on the contrary he looks at you as at a lab mouse, as a surgeon at his patient, on the operating table. He will catalogue you in a most efficient and effective way, you are like an object for him, efficiency, precision and accuracy is his motto in life.

He is Mr Swiss watch.

It is a capital mistake to theorize before one has data.

Libra

Seventh sign in the zodiac. Element Cardinal. Modality – Air. Type – Extrovert.

Ruling planet Venus. Libra key sentence I Harmonize

This type must remain balanced al the time, very were any were, as a matter of fact, he didnt learn yet that this is a mission imposable, once cant please every one, you cunt please al those who surround you, If you are pleasing one, it very possible that you are hurting another.

Yes indeed every one likes Raymond we are facing the ultimate Diplomat, Mediator, or Broker, the perfect person as a peacemaker, a borne reconciler, tact is his motto.

We can take glance at one of this types in the picture The Fortune Cookie a 1966 Billy Wilder film staring the late Jack Lemmon and the late Walter Matthau, Matthau is personify a conniving lawyer, the ultimate Libra.

The name of the game for this type is RELATIONSHIP this all his essence, his biggest need is to remain balanced, which means HARMONY.He cant stand the notion that some isnt please with his behavior, with his activity

Did you notice to the statue of the goddess of justice? Sitting blindfold with the weighing machine her hand, looking for the right balance.

That the real Libras problem is to take a stand, to get a resolution, to make decision, this type is always hesitating, eating his finger nails and finally he says, well mates, dont ask me, I am not apart of this quarrel/ debate, this is his way to get out of his dissonance.

Some times for a bystander it would be very difficult to decide wether this type is lazy or very diligent, this type can work around the clock til job is finished, and than taking a long period of a king size ultimate vacation. You wont find this type at he gym in large numbers, he really rather to lie down under an umbrella at the pool with ice-cold lemonade / beer.

Well this type prefer to make use of his mental capabilities, wisdom and intellect, anyhow his mind is working all the time, making overtime, so why not getting payed for that, isnt so.

We will find this type in the parliament or congress, in the court of law, we can find very sharp, clever and witty businessman, we can find this type in the Academy and in the Arts since beauty and aesthetics are being ruled by Venus.

Scorpio

Eighth sign in the zodiac. Element Fix. Modality – Water. Type – Introvert.

Ruling planet Pluto. Scorpio key sentence I Desire.

A nice example for this type we can find in the fairy tale The beauty and the beast

A huge threaten frightening figure, and on the other hand a gentle kind and sensitive character, a mysterious powerful figure, living in the hiding, behind the walls that he build around himself.

Well I must admit, I know very little about Scorpio, but on the other hand who does, every think regarding this type is top secret every thing is confidence, if you are asking a Scorpio what is he doing? He will reply to you, that this is so confidential that he doesnt know by him self, in other words, he doesnt shear his thoughts and activities.

The Scorpio is hiding every thing deep down at Pluto cellars in the underworld, you wont know what is going on in his mind because he is wearing a perfect poker face.

This type is an extremist, is looking up on the world through the colours white and black, the grey area isnt familiar to him. He loves you or heats you, take my word for it dont Buy yourself an Scorpio a s an enemy, it is unwise, be sure he will settle his bill even if it takes forty years.

On the other hand if he is your friend, than you bought yourself a friend for life, unless you did a stupid mistake like betrayal, however if you bought his trust, he will remain faithful friend for ever, and will give you aid day or night, no matter what, but it is not easy to purchase his trust, well in order to get a job at the CIA youll have easier tests.

Scorpio is living in his on world, he has the ultimate self-awareness, he know exactly and precisely his virtues his advantages and his disadvantage, and they are quite a few, he makes his on rules for himself and for his surrounding, matter of fact now buddy can really understand him, and on the other hand he is capable to read any one like a X-ray machine, he is the master of manipulation, the master of the undirected approach, he will mould you as he wishes.

Take a look at his poker face, for a moment youll believe he is napping, dont do this mistake, his radar is working all the time, he is awake and sharp like a Japanese sword, inside are breaking out lava storms, urges and desires, impulses temptations, but you my friend you will see only the Sphinxes face, perfectly controlled, in this buttal we do not know who wins the Eagle or the Snake

This type being ruled by Pluto can make many changes and transformations in his life, he has the power to change, to rebuild himself, and like the Sphinx to come out of the ashes as a newborn, as an entirely different person.

Were can we find him as Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, diving, as a miner, as an surgeon, perfect in the psychiatry field, military police, private eye, secret service, arts, and all the esoteric field.

While we teach, we learn you should keep studding as long as there is something that you dont know

Sagittarius

Ninth sign in the zodiac. Element Mutable. Modality -Fire. Type – Extrovert.

Ruling planet Jupiter. Sagittarius key sentence I Seek.

After a loud rolling laughter this type will slaps you on your shoulder saying O.K. Thursday at 10 :00, unfortunately he didnt mention in which week and month, will this meeting take place.

While you are waiting for him on Thursday, he is dancing on the waves standing behind a yacht wheel, breathing the air and the endless space of the ocean.

His greatest need is to feel non-dependence, he needs to feel the ability to move whenever he like, were ever he wants to be.

This ultimate adventurer, needs to be in action al the time, he needs to feel the Adrenalin in his veins constantly, you will find him on a racing motorbike, climbing on the Everest, skiing down the Mont Blanc, or Sixty feet under the water, This is the ultimate Sagittarius.

I have in mind two examples; the first one is Sinbad the Sailor this figure from the 1001 Arabian nights fairy tails, is the ultimate adventurer, and the second one is dArtagnan, Alexandre Dumas The three Musketeers hero the idealistic adventurer, who is fighting for the truth justice and freedom, both of them are Sagittarius types.

Along with the adventurer aspect, this type is a born Philosopher, he is seeking for the most abstract philosophy horizons, to the refined and purest truth, he will climb to the peak of the mathematics, physics, and philosophy pyramid, he will deal with the most complicated humanitarian questions. Justice and truth are his motto.

This a very optimistic person who loves people wherever and whoever they are, his biggest disadvantage and weakness is his tactless approach to people, he just says what he is thinking, he doesnt have any intention to harm or insult his fellowman, he is just whishing to point out things as they are and should be, his fellowman should know the truth and correct their mistakes.

Dogs and philosophers do the greatest good and get the fewest rewards.

Capricorn

Tenth sign in the zodiac. Element Cardinal. Modality – Earth. Type – introvert.

Ruling planet Saturn. Capricorn key sentence I Use.

Conformity is our types Trade mark, he is seeking to be in the midst of the consensus, and as close as possible to the decision makers conjunction, his aim is the peak of the pyramid, in whatever organization he is in.

The goat is climbing al her life up on the mountain, will never stop till reaching the top, this is the target, what our type doesnt know that is much harder to stay there, than the climbing process.

Lets go to the movies,The Conformist (Il conformista) is a novel by Albeto Moravia published in 1951 which details the life and desire for normalcy of a government official during Italy’s fascist period. In the yeare 1970 Bernardo bertolucci made a filem in that name.

Marcello ( the hero) spends the entire novel in a search for what he perceives to be a normal life – normal activities, a normal appearance, normal emotions, and so on. However, he confuses normality with conformity, and in his quest to conform, subjugates his already-repressed emotions. When the natural course of his life presents him with ethical dilemmas – the assignment to betray Professor Quadri, his attraction to women other than his wife – he is ill-prepared to deal with them. The ultimate caprocorn

A conservative life style approach is one of his chrematistic. every thing regarding religion ceremony ritual and, sacramental is his favourites ,in matter of fact he wont dare to do any changes regarding those topics, this is tabo, sacred.

This a serious grey type, very ambitious, highest, self discipline, very persistence, approaching life very seriousness and strictness, spontaneousness is an un familiar concept to him, in his mind is efficiency, rigidity, thriftiness and utilitarianism, those factors are his motto.

What do you mean to buy a new pair of trousers, Im wearing them only five years whats wrong with them.

On the other hand, if he is invited to receive a merit certificate which is endowed and given to him by his union, hhhhaaa wait and see, he will buy the most expensive and extravagant suit, he ill show them who he is, let every one explode.

You will find this type at the Union, you will find him right a way, on a daily basis, near the boss, serving him, he will wash his car and will go shopping for him, his ambition don t have any boundary, he will do any thing, any thing in order to fulfil his targets.

Once he is sitting on the bosss chair, he forgot all of those who were with him on the way up, they just vanished, he is relating only to his level, and but of course to his new boss. To his subordinates he is very pedant, demands loyalty, order and discipline.

We are dealing with a great administrator, a very good director, which understands the needs of an organization, knows how to keep the organization, prospers and advancing, this type gets the results that his Bord of Directors will demand, what else could we ask from him.

Be nice to those in your way stepping up, because youll meet them on your return back down

Aquarius

Eleventh sign in the zodiac. Element Fix. Modality – Air. Type – extrovert.

Ruling planet Uranus. Aquarius key sentence I Know.

With this type you neither argue nor give him an advice, he knows every thing on any thing, he doesnt listen to no one.

He will advise his Doctor in the midst of his wife surgery even if his profession is plumbing, he will interfere his solicitor with his advises in the midst of a trill, even if he is a cab driver. Lately I witness our type explaining an old experienced Skipper how to handle a yacht in sea force eight, needless to say that this type even dont know the direction to the sea and swimming is an abstract subject for him.

Although he is extrovert type, he is a real lonesome individual; he is sailing in his on course, observing society in some covering of cynicism, the ultimate non conformist, nobody is allowed to interfere in his life he is living according to his views and understanding the worlds ( his) realism.

This quite a modest person, a real intellectual, the best creative minds are from the Aquarius tribe, his working tools will remain his mind even though he is a mechanic in some garage.

This type could be interest in the situation of the Kangaroo in Australia or the well being of the Penguin in the pole, how well are the kids of the Kipsigies in Africa, whats doing the bald eagle in the Rocky Mountains, our type will participate in a

Congress that handles hearings regarding the ozone in the atmosphere, but he wont ask his children if the had dinner, he just forget them, fixing the world and universal justice is his motto.

This type is so in love in the world that he has neither time nor energy for his on loves, we are facing a cool type he doesnt externalise his feelings, intimacy is an unknown notion for him his distance from the fellowman makes it very difficult for him to relate in a close matter to an individual.

This son of the goddess is watching the human beings, and doesnt allow any one to dig in his feelings, there for he dont know the real meaning of a personal relationship.

Doctor Dolittle is the creation of Hugh Lofting, Doctor Dolittle is a doctor who shuns human patients in favour of animals, with whom he can speak in their own languages. He later becomes a naturalist, using his abilities to speak with animals to better understand nature and the history of the world. Go to the movie and take a look at the ultimate Aquarian.

Another fascinating example for an Aquarian is the legendary Sir Thomas More

1478-1537, also calld Saint Thomas More, T. More was an English lawyer, author, and statesman who in his lifetime earned a reputation as a leading humanist ,scholar, and occupied many public offices, including Lord Chancelor, More coined the word “utopia”, a name he gave to an ideal, imaginary island nation whose political system he described in the eponymous book.

In 1935 , four hundred years after his death, Pop Pius XI canonized St Thomas More in the Roman Catholic Church, More was declared Patron Saint of politicians and statesmen by by Pop John Paul II. In 1980, Sir Thomas More was added to the Chrch of Englands calender of saint, yes indeed the ultimate Aquarian.

I think, therefore I am.

Pieces

Twelves sign in the zodiac. Element Mutable. Modality – Water. Type – introvert.

Ruling planet Neptune. Pieces key sentence I believe.

Yes, go to the movie, and take a look at picture Peter Penn J.M. Barrie creation, the ultimate child who is living in a fairy tails world, among kids who didnt grew up, remaining un mature persons, and preferring to stay un mature.

For those types the name of the game is INTUITION our type thinks from his stomach, I may say that he is a real astronaut, since in his mind he is not on our planet, matter of fact no buddy knows were it is, including himself. He is living in world formed by his imagination, he will play any part his imagination will take him to, he really believe in it, even a Polygraph questionary wont find out the truth.

Our type is a very un- materialistic person, he doesnt relate to the reality of his surroundings, he despises all conventionalities, he is living in some idyllic Utopia, and we humans cant understand the sphere and logic he is living in,.

He is at his best, creating no matter what just letting his imagination loose, the world of art is his escape, painting, poetry, literature, acting, sculpture, music, you name it.

Another field that this type is in his best, is the esoteric world, the mystic world, the best magicians, forecasters, tarot and coffee readers, astrology, in any esoteric field, he is the best.

OOHH yes he is relaxing near the water, it could be the sea, a seeming poll, lake, pond, fishing, diving, sailing, what ever, the water is giving him the needed inspiration.

Men are not prisoners of fate, but only prisoners of their own minds.

Barack Obama’s Connections to Socialism, Communism and Racial Divisiveness

Friday, March 19th, 2010

There’s no need for a long introductionthis article will “speak” for itself. The following is a list of Barack Obama’s connections to socialism, communism, Marxism, racial divisiveness, and political corruption. If you can ignore this and still support the man who refuses to disclose much of his past, then you should not be voting in November.

The Early Mentors and Influences

Barack Hussein Obama Sr. Barack’s father was an African socialist. While he was not with his son for much of Barack Jr.’s childhood, they did keep in touch through routine correspondence according to the memoir, Dreams From My Father.

Stanley Ann Dunham Barack’s mother was a 60’s liberal feminist and an atheist all the makings of a rebellious, 60’s-era, left-wing radical. There is little written about Barack’s mother and her political views, but from what is known, she was certainly on the left of the political spectrum.

Frank Marshall Davis “Frank,” as Barack Obama refers to him in his book, Dreams From My Father, was a member of the Communist Party (USA). He was also a former community organizer in Chicago. As a youth, Barack was treated to many of Davis’ rants about white supremacy, white Christianity, and undoubtedly was aware of Davis’ pro-Soviet writings. In his memoir, Barack merely says he was “intrigued” by Davis.

Saul Alinsky Mr. Alinsky was an avid and open socialist and the king of social activism, commonly called the “father of community organizing.” He created many organizations that relied on street agitation tactics, such as the Industrial Areas Foundation, which trained Obama in organizing tactics. He wrote the book, Rules for Radicals, which outlined many of the tactics used today in community organizing campaigns. Barack Obama worked with the Developing Communities Project and the Gamaliel Foundation both inspired by Saul Alinsky’s tactics and socialist philosophy. Barack even wrote a chapter on community organizing in the book, After Alinsky. Saul Alinsky’s son, Lee David Alinsky, recently praised Obama on his ability to perform Saul’s tactics, saying that Barack “learned his lesson well.”

John L. McKnight Referred to as Obama’s “community organizer mentor,” McKnight taught Barack about community organizing while they were both working with the Gamaliel Foundation a Saul Alinsky production. John McKnight is also a former ACLU director and sits on the board of the National People’s Action (NPA), another leftist community organizing group. He teaches at Northwestern University and he wrote a letter of recommendation to Harvard for Obama.

Radical Faith Testimonials

Reverend Jeremiah Wright “Uncle J” was Barack’s former pastor and mentor at Trinity United Church of Christ. The philosophy of the Church is based on the teachings of James Cone’s black liberation theology. Cone admits that his theology is a mix of “black religion and Marxist philosophy.” Wright’s fiery anti-white, anti-capitalist, and anti-United States sermons landed him in a media controversy that eventually led to Barack’s denouncement of him in the spring of 2008, after 20 years of friendship. Wright had married Barack and Michelle and had baptized their two children. The pastor has also worked with Nation of Islam leader, Louis Farrakhan, and his church’s magazine, Trumpet, has given Farrakhan a lifetime achievement award with praise coming from Wright.

The black liberation theology that is practiced at Trinity is based on James Cone’s version of the religion. He has stated that Trinity represents the most accurate interpretation of his theology. Among the ideas expressed by Cone is the notion that “black religion and Marxist philosophy may show us the way to build a completely new society.” He also believes that “to be black is to be committed to destroying everything this country loves and adores.” Recently, reports have stated that Cone believes nothing Barack Obama has said or written in his books and speeches contradicts Cone’s black liberation theology. Obama has simply blunted the more “radical edge.” On the other hand, Reverend Wright seems to have a firm grasp on what his theology represents and he was able to influence Barack Obama with it for 20 years.

Father Michael Pfleger This seemingly out-of-place white priest with a predominantly black congregation in South Chicago has had a relationship with Obama for nearly 20 years as well. He has received hundreds of thousands of dollars in earmarks and foundation grants from Obama and has contributed to Barack’s multiple political campaigns. He had appeared on Barack’s campaign website under the “Faith” category, but he has since been removed. Much like Wright, Father Pfleger spews fiery racial sermons and gives his support and admiration to Louis Farrakhan. According to Wright’s Trumpet magazine, Pfleger also claims he “got very educated by the [Black] Panthers very educated.”

Domestic Terrorism and Social “Reform”

William Ayers Mr. Ayers is an unrepentant domestic terrorist and an anti-capitalist. He was a leader of the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) in the 1960’s and one of the militant spin-offs, the terrorist Weather Underground organization. These organizations were comprised of communist (”small ‘c’”) and anti-capitalist radicals. Part of Ayers’ Weather Underground strategy was to align with black revolutionary organizations like the Black Panther Party because among other things, they felt “white America” exploited black people and they were taken to the military-like discipline exhibited by those groups. Their activities included bombing police stations, the Capitol Building, and the Pentagon. In recent years, Ayers has publicly stated that he is not sorry for what he did and wishes that he had done more. He has been photographed stomping on the American flag and says the idea that the United States is a fair and just nation “makes me want to puke.” He has also given speeches in Venezuela praising the efforts in education that the Hugo Chavez regime has been makingefforts that he has been trying to implement in the Chicago school system for decades.

Bill Ayers served for six years on the Chicago Annenberg Challenge (CAC) with Barack Obama. Both men headed up separate branches of the CAC that worked together on project funding. He also served on the board of the Woods Fund with Obama for three years. In 1995, Ayers hosted the event at his house which would become the kick-start to Obama’s political career. In that “meet-and-greet,” Alice Palmer handed over her Illinois State Senate reins to Barack (more on that later). Ayers wrote a book on the juvenile justice system which Barack endorsed warmly, then the two were on a panel set up by Michelle Obama to discuss the merits of the book and current (at the time) legislation on the subject which both Ayers and Obama opposed, as well as Bernardine Dohrn. Barack also taught classes at the University of Illinois-Chicago, where Ayers is a faculty member. In 2002, the Black Radical Congress (BRC) hosted a panel discussion at the University of Illinois-Chicago called “Intellectuals in Times of Crisis.” Barack Obama, Bill Ayers, and three endorsers of the BRC were on this panel. Contrary to the protestations by the Obama campaign, Bill Ayers is more than “just a guy” who lives in Barack’s neighborhood.

Bernardine Dohrn She is the wife of Bill Ayers and a former radical herself. Dohrn was the leader of the Revolutionary Youth Movement of the SDS and the Weather Underground. She was also a signatory of the Weather Underground’s “Declaration of War” against the United States. She was a communist (Marxist-Leninist) and is a convicted criminal for her actions in the violent radical groups she was involved with throughout the 60’s and 70’s, particularly the aforementioned bombings. Dohrn later obtained a position at Sidley & Austin, the law firm where Michelle Obama worked. Dohrn’s father-in-law, Tom Ayers, owned a company which had received long-time outside counsel from Sidley. She obtained her position at Sidley & Austin through Howard Trienens, a senior partner. Trienens, Tom Ayers, and Sidley partner Newton Minow, all served on the board of trustees at Northwestern University. Dohrn is now an adjunct professor at Northwestern.

Mike Klonsky He was a Maoist, a former SDS national chairman (1968), and formed the “October League” when the SDS broke into several factions. The October League later became the Beijing-recognized U.S. Communist Party (Marxist-Leninist), of which Klonsky became a leader in the 70’s, traveling to China and praising the Maoist leadership. He took over the Small Schools Workshop which was created by Ayers, when Ayers headed up the CAC in 1995. The CAC, with Barack as one of its chairs, continued to fund the Workshop throughout the CAC’s existence. Klonsky was also an official blogger for the Obama presidential campaign website in 2008.

Marilyn Katz She oversaw security for the SDS, where she met Ayers. She was part of the Committee of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism, which organized the 2002 anti-war speech in Chicago where Barack Obama famously spoke out against the Iraq War. Katz is a signatory of the Progressives for Obama website and the founder of Chicagoans Against War on Iraq. She also happens to have played poker games with Judson Miner, the liberal lawyer who hired Obama upon his return to Chicago after graduating Harvard Law School. Obama met Katz through the Miner Barnhill & Galland law firm. Miner was also a law school classmate of Bernardine Dohrn at the University of Chicago in the 60’s. Katz has held fundraisers for Obama in her home and is a media advisor for the Obama presidential campaign.

Carl Davidson He was a former leader of the SDS and a Maoist, like Klonsky. He was also one of the organizers for the 2002 anti-war speech. Davidson is the webmaster for the website, Progressives for Obama, which posts blogs from other 60’s radicals like Tom Hayden and Bill Fletcher, who created the website and its agenda.

Bill Fletcher As mentioned, he was a 60’s radical (a Maoist) and is one of the creators of the Progressives for Obama website. While there is no evidence of a direct connection to the Obama campaign, he has endorsed the call of the Black Radical Congress along with Obama advisor Cornel West and has connections to others that are directly involved with Obama and his campaign.

Incestuous Relationships and Friendly Donations

Woods Fund In 1993, Barack Obama became a board member with the Woods Fund. A man named Ken Rolling was a program officer with the fund at the time. During the late 80’s the Woods Fund gave grants to the Developing Communities Project, where Obama had worked as a community organizer. At the time, the Woods Fund was supporting the Chicago Local School Councils (LSC’s) which were created from the 1988 Chicago School Reform Act. Bill Ayers was involved with establishing these LSC’s along with his brother John, who was a leader in the LSC’s and became head of the Leadership for Quality Education (LQE) in 1993. The LQE was a group formed at the time of the Reform Act and was supported by a local business lobby that wanted to use the LQE as a means to train the LSC’s. Ayers joined Obama on the board of the Woods Fund in 1999 and they worked together there until 2002.

Chicago Annenberg Challenge (CAC) Bill Ayers played a seminal role in the creation of the CAC. One of the main goals of the Challenge was to build on the 1988 Reform Act and the LSC’s, which he supported and in which his brother was involved. In 1995, the CAC began its operations with Barack Obama as Chairman of the Board. Bill Ayers was co-chair of the Chicago School Reform Collaborative, one of three branches of the CAC the Board being another. Ken Rolling was brought in from the Woods Fund as Executive Director. In the first year a $175,000 grant was awarded to the Small Schools Workshop which was founded by Ayers but control was turned over to fellow radical, Mike Klonsky, once Ayers began the CAC. Obama and Ayers worked together in the CAC from 1995 until its end in 2001. That year, the CAC came to an end but handed startup funds over to Penny Pritzker and the Chicago Public Education Fund (CPEF). Pritzker is now part of the fundraising operation in the Obama campaign. In 2003, the CAC’s own report admitted that the ultimate goal of the CAC to improve academic achievement was a failure. Regardless of the outcome, it is plain that the goals for Ayers and Obama were similarand knowing Ayers’ past, it isn’t something that should be taken with a grain of salt.

Sidley & Austin This is the Chicago law firm that brought in Obama as a summer associate in 1989. It’s also the firm where Michelle Obama worked and reportedly met Barack for the first time. Sidley had been outside counsel to Tom Ayers’ company, Commonwealth Edison. Howard Trienens, the partner that handled Commonwealth Edison, hired Bernardine Dohrn at Sidley. Trienens was on the board of trustees at Northwestern with Tom Ayers, Dohrn’s father-in-law, and Newton Minow, another Sidley partner.

ACORN Obama has extensive ties to the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, as do his two prominent spiritual influences, Wright and Pfleger. Obama’s Developing Communities Project and his “Project VOTE” campaign worked closely with ACORN. Both the Woods Fund and Joyce Foundation where Obama sat on both boards gave frequent donations to ACORN. He filed a successful lawsuit on behalf of ACORN to enforce the “motor-voter” law in Illinois. Madeleine Talbot, a former ACORN leader in Chicago, hired Obama to train her staff on organizing tactics. Talbot was arrested for a protest that broke into a Chicago City Council session in 1997. In return for training Chicago ACORN leaders in community organizing techniques, Obama received their help with his political campaigns. Obama had also joined with ACORN to try to overturn Indiana’s voter I.D. laws, but the Supreme Court rejected their complaint.

What is ACORN’s record? In St. Louis, eight local ACORN workers were indicted on charges related to voter fraud from fake information on registration forms in 2006. One of the eight pleaded guilty in March. Seven workers were indicted on felony charges in Seattle because of phony registration forms and some of the workers already had criminal records. Three workers pleaded guilty in 2007 and ACORN eventually settled the largest case of voter fraud in Washington State history, paying $25,000 in restitutions. Similar problems are being investigated in at least twelve other states. ACORN’s political action committee (PAC) has endorsed Barack Obama for president.

Notable Friends and Advisors

Linda Darling-Hammond Currently an education advisor to the Obama presidential campaign, Darling-Hammond has some less obvious connections to the leftist agenda, so it will take a little longer to define them. She has writings and has supported the notion of an “education debt” which is said to plague minority communities. This concept is a product of another educator, Gloria Ladson-Billings. Ladson-Billings is one of the pioneers of the phrase “education debt,” which is apparently the by-product (at least in part) of a reparations agenda pushed by people like the factually-incorrect and racist, Randall Robinson and books like, The Debt: What America Owes to Blacks. In 2006, Ladson-Billings gave her Presidential Address to the leftist-tainted American Educational Research Association (AERA) in which she spoke about repaying the “education debt.” She also announced the selection of Darling-Hammond to the Association’s governing council that same week. As it turns out, Bill Ayers was recently elected as an AERA vice-president (but for some reason, he no longer appears on their website as a VP of curriculum studies.)

Darling-Hammond and Ladson-Billings also appear together in two different liberal education programs, the Forum for Education and Democracy (FED) and the Economic Policy Institute’s (EPI) “Bold Approach.” Both of these programs preach the concept of “social justice,” which seems to be code for socialist redistribution programs. And they both have more connections to Bill Ayers. Ladson-Billings has contributed writings for Ayers-edited books, she’s been a co-editor with Ayers, and wrote a forward to another of his books. Darling-Hammond, who has taken up the agenda of the two liberal programs, including the notion of the reparations-inspired “education debt,” and is a long-time member of the AERA, has also had her writings appear in an Ayers-edited book. Ayers obviously supports the liberal agenda of both of these educators, the two programs, and the AERA, as does Mike Klonsky, who is a co-signer of the “Bold Approach” agenda.

Laurence Tribe Mr. Tribe was one of Barack’s professors/mentors at Harvard. He co-founded and is on the board of advisors of the American Constitution Society (ACS), a leftist counter to the Federalist Society. The ACS defines itself as promoting the “progressive” agenda in law. Mr. Tribe has been accused of plagiarizing in one of his books and believes animals should have legal standing to sue humans and businesses. He is on a short list of possible Supreme Court nominees if Obama wins the presidential election and is currently an advisor to his campaign.

Charles Ogletree He is another one of Barack’s Harvard professors/mentors and an advocate for reparations for slavery, despite the fact that he believes reparations could cost the government trillions of dollars and the fact that those trillions would come from the taxpayers, including other black people. He has also been accused of plagiarizing, like his colleague Laurence Tribe, and is currently an advisor to the Obama campaign.

Cornel West Mr. West defines his political ideology as “non-Marxist socialist.” He is an anti-capitalist and honorary chair of the Democratic Socialists of America. He is a contributor/signatory to the Progressives for Obama website and has endorsed the Black Radical Congress’ (BRC) call for a “renewed struggle.” He appeared together with Reverend Jeremiah Wright on a panel called “Faith as a Weapon: Spirituality and the Role of the Church in the Radical Movement” hosted by the newly formed BRC in 1998. West was also involved in the Million Man March and has many other connections to the racist and anti-Israeli, Louis Farrakhan.

Alice Palmer She is a former executive board member of the U.S. Peace Council (a communist front group), which is an affiliate of the World Peace Council (a Soviet front group). In 1983, she attended the World Peace Council’s Prague Assembly. Palmer wrote an article in the People’s Daily World a CPUSA newspaper describing how impressive the Soviet system was when she attended the 27th Congress of the Communist Party in the Soviet Union. When she decided to give up her Illinois Senate seat in an effort to win an election for U.S. Representative, she identified Barack Obama as her successor in the State Senate. She held a “meet-and-greet” at the home of Bill Ayers for Obama’s introduction into the Illinois political arena.

Antoin “Tony” Rezko The relationship between Obama and Rezko goes back to 1990. That year, Tony Rezko offered Obama a job with his housing development business, but Obama declined. They remained friends ever since and Rezko became one of Obama’s biggest campaign contributors. Over the years, Barack has obtained millions of dollars in grants for Rezko to build inner-city housing. However, many of these properties have been plagued by financial misdeeds and problems with infrastructure and maintenance. One project for a senior-citizens complex garnered $14 million for Rezko and his business partner, Allison Davis an Obama fundraiser and former boss at the law firm then named Davis Miner Barnhill & Galland. At the time Obama’s letter was written asking for legislative support for the project, Cottage View Terrace, Obama was a lawyer with Miner Barnhill & Galland the same law firm but without Davis as a partner. The firm had several companies owned by Rezko and Davis as clients, but not New Kenwood LLC which was in charge of Cottage View Terrace. Tony Rezko was recently convicted of several felonies involving corruption and kickbacks to various Chicago politicians.

In June 2005, Barack Obama and Tony Rezko purchased adjacent properties on the same day and from the same owner in Chicago. Obama paid $300,000 below the asking price while Rezko paid full price. At the time, it was already known that Rezko was under investigation for criminal charges. In January of 2006, Mrs. Rezko sold a ten foot strip of property to Obama. When asked about the questionable circumstances surrounding the purchase of the two properties, Obama apologized and said his actions were “boneheaded.”

Rashid Khalidi Mr. Khalidi is a Palestinian political activist and a professor at Columbia University. For six years in Beirut, he was the director of WAFA, the official Palestinian press agency where his wife had also worked as chief editor of the English section. Mr. Khalidi has also worked with the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) during the height of its terrorist campaigns in the Middle East. While in Chicago, the Khalidi’s created the Arab American Action Network (AAAN), an anti-Israeli group, and received $75,000 in grants from the Woods Fund when Obama and Ayers were on the board. Khalidi has also held fundraisers for Obama and the Obama’s have had many dinners at the Khalidi’s home in Chicago. Khalidi also started the website Electronic Intifada an anti-Israeli site with Ali Abunimah, another Obama associate. Both Khalidi and Abunimah have considered Obama a friend and ally to their cause.

Robert Malley This former “informal” foreign policy advisor to the Obama campaign resigned in May 2008 due to allegations that he was meeting with members of the terrorist organization, Hamas. Malley dismissed his meetings with these contacts as simply being part of his job. But he is also anti-Israeli with a long list of op-ed articles some co-authored by former Yasser Arafat advisors with a revisionist slant and intent to denounce Israeli attempts for peace and security. Not surprisingly, Malley’s father was a fervent anti-Western, “Third-Worldist” who wrote about liberation “struggle” leftist code for anti-capitalism and pro-socialist/communist movements.

Other Supporters of Obama and/or His Policies

Hugo Chavez Venezuelan dictator
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad President of Iran
Fidel Castro Cuban dictator
Party of European Socialists
Louis Farrakhan Supreme Minister, Nation of Islam
Democratic Socialists of America
Communist Party USA (CPUSA)
Frank Chapman Member of U.S. Peace Council Executive Committee (an FBI-identified communist front group)
Mark Solomon National co-chair, Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism
Joel Wendland Managing editor of CPUSA online magazine Political Affairs: Marxist Thought Online
Pepe Lozano Leader in the Chicago Youth Communist League and editorial board member of CPUSA newspaper, People’s World Weekly

Closing Thoughts

These are not just associations. All of these connections are family members, close friends and “mentors,” and affiliations/organizations that Obama willingly participated with and in and financially supported. If Barack doesn’t know about their past and their political ideologies, then he is oblivious to his surroundings and does not belong in the White House as the leader of our country. If he knew about these things but didn’t think they mattered, then he is beyond nave and does not belong in the White House. If he knew about these things and openly welcomed it, then he’s just downright dangerous and does not belong on a local school board, let alone in the White House.

All of these incestuous relationships directly place Barack Obama deep inside the socialist/communist movements in Chicago. His plans and policies are radical and his associations and partners are mostly on the very far left of politics. Socialism and communism are not and shouldn’t be acceptable philosophies in this country, especially from a person running for president. This isn’t simply a matter of “guilt by association.” These relationships are long-lasting and ingrained into Barack’s political philosophy and ideology. There’s a reason why he will do anything and everything it takes to ignore, deny, or denounce every one of these associations once they are brought to the public’s attention.

Is this guilt by association? Not at all. These associations demonstrate a pattern of relationships with leftist radicals, criminally corrupt developers, and racially divisive activists. These relationships are not a matter of happenstance either. Barack sought out these groups from his early days. He did not grow up in Chicago he chose to live there. His associations are a direct result of his decision-making and his chosen path to political power. He willingly participated in socialist-minded groups and worked with radicals and unrepentant criminals. He is beyond dangerous to this republic of ours and his policies are beyond destructive.

You have been warned.

Dear Mr. Steele

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

Mr. Michael Steele
Chairman, Republican National Committee

Mr. Steele, I am in receipt of your form letter and 2009 State of the Republican Party Survey and as has become customary on my behalf I am going to use this opportunity to address the issues specifically asked within it in a more in-depth manner than such a simple multiple choice survey allows.

For your convenience and mine I have reproduced the questions asked before providing my answers.

Question:
A recent national poll reported that nearly 25% of Americans want the government to pass more socialist legislation. Do you agree or disagree?

No true American would answer that they agree with this proposed course of action. Likewise no student of history who can clearly see the past and present horrors that socialist government in any of its many forms has suffered upon the people would answer in the affirmative unless they are so blinded by a lust for power for themselves and control over others. This result merely confirms that which I have readily and repeatedly observed to be true; that there is about a quarter of the U.S. population that are hard core leftists that desire a utopia they think can be created by the hand of Government Almighty.

The problem however becomes that I must ask the question what has the Republican Party done to stop the slowly creeping hand of unconstitutional state control over the years? What has made them a better keeper of American liberty? Is it merely the fact that they have not been party to as much bad socialist legislation as other political parties? If such is the case, and it surely is, then it is not whether or not I agree but whether or not the Republican Party agrees and is willing to act against members who promote such folly.

Question:
Which do you believe creates more jobs for the American economy: Government Programs and Spending or the American Free Enterprise System?

The question should not be which creates more jobs but which creates more liberty and sustainable employment. Both systems have proven capable of creating jobs. But is it good policy to pay one man to dig a hole and then another to simply fill it back up so that it may be dug again as many government make work projects do? Is it good policy to build buildings that will see little use and simply to spend money as government is want to do? Is it good policy to enact legislation that kills one job for an American worker but creates two bureaucratic posts to oversee the remaining ones as government policy often does? Of course it is not.

The American Free Enterprise System naturally creates jobs and does so by allowing individuals to freely enter into contracts with one another for goods and services. It allows them to partake of their liberty and is obviously and by far a better system despite at times that liberty leading to pain and suffering due to people making bad business decisions.

Of course I prefer the latter to the inevitable pain doled out by government bureaucrats.

Question:
The Obama Administration has proposed spending as much as $1.5 trillion to bail out the banking industry. Do you agree or disagree with this proposal?

It is not just the Obama Administration that has proposed such. It has also been the Republican Partys representatives who have done such and actually helped pass bailouts of lenders who made bad financial decisions with their assets and acted poorly in their fiduciary responsibility to their customers who have invested with them. TARP is the glaring example of this.

Of course such actions are extra-constitutional in scope and should not be undertaken. The problem is that neither major party has shown the ability to lead on such an issue.

Question:
Do you oppose so-called card-check legislation, which eliminates secret ballot elections during unionization drives and puts workers at risk of intimidation by labor bosses?

The means of balloting is of secondary importance in this question. Of primary importance is the intimidation practices of those that would seek to coerce others into acting against their will. Of course secret ballots are favorable and I believe that in the majority of times they are preferable. But they are not always necessary. The Declaration of Independence was not a secret ballot for example and all those in favor proudly and openly displayed their votes by signing it.

The issue with unionization is deeper than the issue of card-check which I do firmly believe should be opposed. Many industries and businesses have been forced to accept unions simply based on the desire for the employees to unionize. This neglects the private property rights of the business owner if he or she does not wish to accept such an act nor deal with such an entity. The rights of business owners must be as equally protected as those that wish to unionize and I fear that this is often not the case based on the strength and bargaining power of many unions which have been shown to cripple business when they become too large and powerful and are catered to at the expense of reasonable business practices.

Question:
Should the Republicans unite to block new federal government bureaucracy and red tape that will crush future economic growth?

The Republican Party should unite to block any new federal government bureaucracy that is unconstitutional in nature. Adopting that general principle would be far more admirable. The question is will the GOP do this?

Question:
Should Republicans in Congress oppose the new wasteful government spending programs passed in the recent stimulus bill by the Pelosi-Reid Democrats designs to spread the wealth?

See previous answer concerning unconstitutional government. Adopting that overriding principle would serve the Republican Party well and answer many of the questions you ask of me.

Question:
Do you agree that we must secure our borders and stop illegal immigration?

Considering that control of immigration is a legitimate function of the federal government and clearly stated in the Constitution as such a role and considering that there are legitimate and non-discriminatory laws that make certain types of immigration illegal at present then the answer to such a question should be obvious.

The answer is yes. However the Republican Party has proven somewhat ineffective in this pursuit with high profile members of the party even pushing the concept of amnesty for current offenders over harsh enforcement and the legitimate rule of law.

Question:
Should we do everything we can to block Democrats who are trying to shut down conservative talk radio with the so-called fairness doctrine?

The issue of government control over the media and radio goes far beyond the attempts by some to mandate the practices and standards of private enterprise through the fairness doctrine or some other such hideous thing in an attempt to regulate the dispersion of ideas and opinions that the government and those in charge of it may not like. Respected members of the federal government must stand against such thuggish acts naturally. However the problem is that the government is too far down a treacherous path by over regulating entities such as radio stations based on fallacious claims regarding their right to regulate the public airwaves under the guise that they are public and only on that assumption.

However there is no difference between the so-called public airwaves being used by radio stations and a two citizens communicating on the street corner. Both sets of words travel through the same air and if one can be regulated then so too may the other. Of course, neither should be under the precept of Freedom of Speech. The regulation of the public airwaves is a slippery slope that can only lead to further infringements of the first amendment by government officials unkind to liberty and their actions should be seriously looked at and paired back to only Constitutional roles clearly defined in the federal constitution. Unfortunately for the federal government this would mean for them the complete dismantling of the bureaucracy they have created for such a purpose over the years as there is no constitutional authority for such.

Question:
Should we resist Barak Obamas proposal to spend billions of federal taxpayer dollars to pay volunteers who perform his chosen tasks?

The federal government should be outlaying not a single fraction of a penny of taxpayer dollars except to pay for powers specifically granted to it in the Constitution.

Question:
Should Republicans unite in opposition to judicial nominees who bring a personal, left-wing agenda on social issues to their jobs as judges?

The advise and consent role of the Senate in the nomination process has always been to prevent the President from appointing wholly unqualified jurists to the bench whether they be personal relatives, political cronies or persons that would not uphold the basic principles of America and our Constitution. The integrity of the Judiciary was of high importance in the past but has since been dimmed.

If a judge being nominated is not willing to prevent the taking of life without due process of law (except in the instance of defense from harm) and uphold a conviction of such a person found guilty for such an offense punishable by the constitutionally qualified fate of death then that judge should be utterly disqualified and opposed. If the judge being nominated is not able to clearly read and is unwilling to apply to Second Amendments unequivocal right of the people to keep and bear arms to all applicable cases before her then rightfully she should be barred from ascending to any position on the federal bench.

Question:
Do you want Republicans to vigorously defend the recently passed partial-birth abortion ban from attacks by the Democrat majority?

I wholly expect the Republicans to vigorously defend the right to life of all persons, including the unborn who meet every biological and ethical standard of human life, as proclaimed that we are all entitled to by our own Declaration of Independence and our federal Constitution.

Question:
Should bureaucrats in Washington, D.C. be in charge of making your health care choices instead of you and your doctor?

Such a question should never even need to be asked. The Republican Party should of course be standing against unconstitutional power which any such control from Washington D.C. over health care would clearly be.

Question:
If Barack Obama tries to gut the USA PATRIOT Act and other important laws that promote the safety and security of all Americans, should Republicans in Congress fight back?

President Obama is, of course, not capable of such acts because it is Congress that makes and, by correlation, repeals laws. However he may attempt to lead members of his party in Congress to take such actions. But more to the point of this question is that the Republicans should, I stress again, stand against any unconstitutional power the government attempts to seize. If there are unconstitutional provisions in any law, including the USA PATRIOT Act, they should be fought against.

As such I will not give you carte blache authority to simply keep something just because it exists and you proclaim it as good without knowing more detail exactly what specificities you desire to speak on.

Question:
Should we stop Democrat leaders from cutting funding from our intelligence agencies or bringing back Clinton-era restrictions on inter-agency communications?

I am certain that there are cost savings to be had in all government programs including our intelligence agencies. Therefore speaking out against reducing funding for them would not be prudent. If you mean to ask me the question of whether or not the Republicans should stand against Democrats who may seek to castrate the intelligence community and make them ineffective by reducing funding without rhyme or reason just to find money to pay for other plans they might have then the answer is most assuredly yes.

Question:
Do you support the use of air strikes against any country that offers safe harbor or aid to individuals or organizations committed to further attacks on America?

I believe that the defense of America is a clearly defined role of the federal government thus the answer is absolutely. However I would go further in saying that any country taking such action would be committing a de facto act of war against this country and should be dealt with by more forceful means other than simply bombings from several tens of thousands of feet in the sky.

Question:
Should Republicans unite in support of full funding for border and port security when Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid try to make cuts in their areas?

Are you honestly asking me if Republicans should take seriously their oaths to uphold and defend the Constitution upon being elected to public office? Of course they should.

Question:
Do you think U.S. Troops should have to serve under United Nations commanders?

I think this question begets another. Should the United States even be a member of the United Nations; an organization that allows tin horned dictators and grotesque thugs to enter our country and act as though they are legitimate statesmen? The answer to that question is no and it also applies to the specific question you asked as well.

Question:
Do you agree that our top military priority should be fighting terrorists?

Our top military priority should be the defense of America and our allies around the world. If that includes at the moment in question the fighting of terrorists then yes.

Question:
Should we fight military-cutting efforts in Congress such as the proposal from liberal Barney Frank to slash Pentagon spending by 25%?

The military and defense of America are some of only a few functions that the federal government partakes in which are actually constitutional. This is not to say however, such as with intelligence programs which I previously addressed, that there is not waste and abuse that cannot be weeded out. However to simply hack and slash in an effort to find money to fund other government programs, constitutional or not, should never be endorsed.

Question:
Even though Barack Obama pledged to meet personally with the likes of Raul Castro, Hugo Chavez and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, should Republicans continue to focus on supporting democratic movements in oppressive states like Cuba, Venezuela and Iran?

It is not that we should be supporting democratic movements so much as we should be supporting the actions of those either seeking or seeking to maintain liberty. Democratic movements have often times lead to bad things such as in Germany prior to World War II, France, Venezuela, etc. It is the goal of the movement, not the nature of the movement itself that must ultimately be considered.

As such the United States should stand shoulder to shoulder with all freedom loving people and aid them as we can. If we do not hold dear the liberty of the man in Africa because of his proximity then we, by our very inaction, do not abide by our own founding documents proclaiming that all men are created equal and possess the right of liberty.

Question:
Why did the Republicans lose the White House and congressional seats in the 2008 elections?

Because Republicans, as a whole, have not adhered closely to our founding principles and they have not defended our Constitution. Instead they have allowed any and all to join their leadership ranks and run amok as candidates even when they are not of the quality and caliber that should be rightfully sought. When you look like those that you are running against, you give no reason for people to vote for you over those that you are running against.

Question:
What are the key strengths and beliefs of the Republican Party that we can build on?

The precepts of our founding documents and nothing more. But also nothing less. However in recent memory I have come to question if these are truly things that the Republican Party believes in.

Question:
What are the weaknesses of the Republican Party?

Let me answer this question with questions of my own for you. When was the last time the Republican Party forcibly stood up against the welfare culture of America where the productive are made slaves to the lazy and those that believe that they are entitled to something or other because of their age or situation in life? When was the last time the Republican Party forcibly attacked the wrongness of the myriad of unconstitutional spending programs gushing forth from Washington and paid them any attention other than lip service? I mean standing up and actually calling them unconstitutional! Not just skirting that important topic and pointing out the symptoms of the programs which are high and unmanageable debt for our children, loss of jobs, the destruction of families and so on? When was the last time the Republicans had the courage as a political party to firmly grab hold of the third rails of politics and take them with firm hands and stand on principle without caring what those that benefit unconstitutionally from such programs may falsely say to try and keep their own hands in the cookie jar?

Answer those questions and you will have your answer to your own question.

Question:
What is the best way to encourage and register new voters in your community?

I believe the option of personal appearances by Republican Leaders who can articulate the concepts and importance of personal liberty and the need to shed ourselves of the bloated government that currently is crushing our children is best. But again I turn to the thought of thinking that there are few, if any, Republican Leaders capable of such a task.

Question:
What technological innovations should the RNC employ to grow our Party?

It will not be technological innovations that grow the Republican Party. Only a strong message of liberty and a repeated show that the Republican Party believes in that message will do this. How the message is delivered is secondary and should not be the greatest concern of the Party. To put the cart before the horse will only doom the GOP to failure after failure. The GOP must correct its own house and get its message straight before it can grow the party.

Question:
What can the Republican Party do to earn your trust?

Sadly this is not a simple answer. The Republican Party has so much to do that trust cannot be given easily. The party has betrayed American and our first principles so many times that it becomes a massive task in and of itself to just reach a point of modest trust much less competent action. A recurring theme is that many members of the Party are far too liberal and do far too much harm to America with their actions upon being elected to office. These folks should not be members of the Party and while it may be untenable to sever ties with these individuals due to a fear of loss in power and numbers within the current House and Senate we see that they cannot be trusted anyway. Please reference the case of the dishonorable Arlen Specter from my own state of Pennsylvania who, upon realizing that his political career may be over and that he would likely not win the Partys primary, jumped ship to the party he was more in line with from the start.

Specter should never have been given the chance to run as a Republican by the Party, but in a lust for power he was readily retained in cycle after cycle because of his electability in a state that regularly cannot bring themselves to vote for anyone other than liberal Democrats. Other members of the Party, Senator John McCain for example, have introduced blatant legislation within the chambers of Congress that directly opposes the Constitution and attempts to circumvent it. I speak of course of McCain-Feingold. There is absolutely no excuse for any man or woman representing the GOP to even think for a second that such was anything less than an unconstitutional infringement upon our God given liberties.

Yet he and many others are allowed to remain in the Partys good graces. And I do not believe that I need to even point out the heinousness of TARP which was supported by many members of the Republican Party and yet another clearly unconstitutional overreach.

Far be it from me to imply that there should not be disagreements between members of the Party over issues. But when the issues in question are so clearly in violation of the federal Constitution yet still supported by Party members a serious look must be taken to see if they are worthy of being called Republicans. If not they should be thanked for their service and sent on their way to run either as Democrats, Independents or with some other third party that would accept their actions.

It has become clear that over the years the Republican Party is far to willing to remove principle from its process when selecting candidates in exchange for the candidates ability to increase the Partys numbers and power in not just Washington but also the State and local level as well. The Republican Party must correct this to gain the trust of Americans who still believe in liberty and the Party must be willing to part company with those that do not in fact hold our Constitution and the principles of limited government most dear. The example most clear to me is that of the 2004 Senatorial elections involving Mr. Arlen Specter. The Republican Party disregarded a clearly superior candidate in terms of Republican ideals in Mr. Pat Toomey to openly support the incumbent. And today he has repaid that effort how? I believe you see my obvious point.

To be frank Mr. Steele, I am not so certain that you are indeed the man who can help achieve the goal of regaining either my trust or the trust of many other Americans which the GOP so desperately needs. You have not yet earned my trust and while I will gladly give you the opportunity to do so I remain skeptical. I am not intending to besmirch your character by saying this, only that I am pointing out that while I know some of you, I know not enough to trust you enough and that the actions of the Party and its members will dictate my future direction on this important issue. I believe that you can understand this skepticism based on the current state of the Party and the remarkably poor candidates that were placed before us as witnessed by the options in the 2008 Presidential election cycle alone. It was for the most part an assortment of moderate to center left candidates whose histories of Constitutional infringements, big government excesses, general lunacy and promotion of failed socialist programs were well known but often ignored.

The Party has a great history. But it has a dim future if such are the best leaders we are capable of finding and putting forth. Earn my trust, and the trust of millions, by pulling the weeds from the lawn and cultivating the growth of a firm and dense grass upon which all can tread without worry of thorns and other nuisances. Take those weeds and cast them to compost and allow them to rot so that they may fertilize the growing of the good.

Question:
Will you help the Republican National Committee implement your ideas and help keep our party-building programs for the 2009-2010 election moving forward by making a contribution today?

While I have understood from the start that you are seeking monetary aid for your efforts please consider this letter to you as my contribution. My time is valuable and I do command a decent hourly salary for my time and as this letter has taken the better part of ten hours to fully compile to a state where I feel comfortable in submitting it to your attention I believe that you should accept this as my contribution and do with it as you see fit to help your efforts.

Footwear Firms Up the Ante on Airport Stores

Monday, March 15th, 2010

LOS ANGELES When airport retail started to take off a few years ago, brands viewed the stores as a way to snatch a few extra bucks from travelers with time to kill.

Now, though, its a soaring business.

Airport retail generated $34 billion in sales in 2007, up from $29 billion in 2006. Luxury goods accounted for 35.5 percent of those sales, a 16.6 percent increase over 2006, according to research service Generation Databank. Thats why Bally, Prada, Ferragamo and Chlo, among others, are all going along for the ride.

Airport retail is growing very quickly, and the image is also changing, said Marco Franchini, CEO of Bally, which will have 48 airport outlets in locations ranging from Shanghai to Amsterdam by the end of the year. The market is shifting from a main category, like tobacco, alcohol and cosmetics, to a more brand-oriented shopping experience, with full boutiques and personalized shop-in-shop corners.

To cash in, brands are funneling a chunk of their money into airports overseas. Splashy new terminals opened earlier this year in London and Beijing.

Airports are a wonderful place for retail, said Neil Clifford, CEO of Kurt Geiger, which has six airport shops in the U.K. and in March bowed a Kurt Geiger boutique in Heathrows Terminal 5, joining such neighbors as Prada, with its first airport store, and Christian Dior. Youve got money, youre going on holiday and you have time to spare. You can buy an iPodora Montblanc penora Hugo Boss shirt.

Or a pair of shoes. We play with the traffic, play with the mix from morning to evening depending on the [flight] destination, said Clifford, of the various styles offered. If theres a Far Eastern flight in the morning, we put the higher end out front. If its Europeanordomestic in the evening, we may have more high fashion and fast fashion, more womens. Handbags represent about 25 to 30 percent of the selection, with brands such as Marc Jacobs, Tory Burch and Vivienne Westwood.

Still, a few signs suggest that airport retail could lose altitude. Increased oil prices are making airline tickets more expensive, while the uptick in food and gas prices gives consumers pause before spending on pricey vacations.

But experts say people will still travel, even though they might fly less.

The question for airport retailers, then, is whether to chase the upscale, commercially important passengers as airlines label them ortry to squeeze an extra dollarortwo out of the ordinary traveler. So far, luxury names are betting that the world population of high-spending travelers will increase. Its just a matter of figuring out which countries theyll be flying to and from.

High Road to China

One growing travel area is China. In February, Beijing Capital International opened the worlds largest airport terminal, Terminal 3, partly in preparation for this months Olympic Games.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong International Airport reported 20 percent retail sales growth in the first four months of 2008, and a 25 percent growth for luxury retail. It is currently soliciting offers from tenants for the planned East Hall Luxury Brand Boutique Boulevard.

In 2007 in China, international passenger traffic was up by 17 percent, to 38.3 million passengers. But domestic Chinese air travel dwarfs that, at 349 million. And that group, though not as free-spending as the international travelers, has plenty of appeal, too. Whats more, the wealth of Chinas middle class is among the worlds fastest growing.

[Beijing Terminal 3 has] the most luxurious domestic mix that Ive seen anywhere in the world, with brands such as Omega, which is not normal in the domestic market, said Robbie Gill, an architect and a director of The Design Solution, a London firm that plans and designs airport retail. The Chinese are a massive market. Those brands have to work hard to be the preferred brand. Theyre using shops in domestic terminals as 3-D advertisements.

Bally has spots in Beijings international and domestic terminals. Our airport locations act as virtual ambassadors for the brand, Franchini said. Our strategy is to open boutiques. In the case where the airport shopping area doesnt allow full-size boutiques, we ask for a personalized shop-in-shopora corner.

Laurence Franklin, CEO of the Tumi luggage, handbag and accessory chain, agreed that individual shops are a goal. Of Tumis more than 120 points of sale in airports worldwide, about 20 are standaloneorside-by-side stores. Our strategy is to expand our airport presence aggressively, but with an emphasis on quality meaning fully branded, standalone stores versus quantity, he said. Airport development is central not just to our global retail strategy but is a significant part of our overall brand strategy for the next several years.

Passage to India

For many brands, India is at the top of the wish list, partly because its elite consumers are used to shopping in airports. Indias own domestic middle class has been growing at a phenomenal rate, but the quality and amount of retail downtown never caught up, Gill said. Indians had to travel to buy it.

So now the market is coming to India. Gills firm is preparing retail plans for three new terminals in the Delhi and Mumbai airports, one opening in December and the others in 2010. There will be a large luxury component, he said.

A change in airport ownership is also boosting commerce in India, Gill said. Private entities bought both airports, so the whole face of Indian airport travel will be transformed. But he doesnt want to transform it into a luxury paradise. Well have a design area dedicated to craft, with Indian retailers. It will be different from what you see in the rest of the world. Youll see the richness of a culture through its retailers, he explained. [The luxury concentration] is not a problem for sales, but it might be in the future because if you replicate the same names worldwide, theres no sense of difference.

Not everybody can afford to walk into Gucci and drop $2,000 on a handbag, Gill continued. Seventy-five percent of the people who visit airports only buy a newspaper and a cup of coffee.

Other up-and-coming airport retail countries include Russia, where the ARI management firm won the retail contract for Terminal 3, opening in October at Moscows Sheremetyevo Airport.

At Singapores Changi Airport, Chlo opened its first store within that country in May 2007, choosing the airport over a city location. Gills firm designed Changis Valiram luxury island, which houses shops for Bottega Veneta, Fendi, Cartier and Bulgari.

Charles de Gaulles T2E terminal opened in March in Paris with the first Yves Saint Laurent airport store.

In England, Clifford is enthusiastic about the new store at Heathrow. Weve been pleasantly surprised, he said. Were seeing relatively single-digit growth not 10 to 20 percent but T5 represents a new store and a new business for us. London is a pretty cool international destination. Were benefiting from that.

What Women Do That Drive Men Crazy

Friday, March 12th, 2010

Dudes are famously tight-lipped about their emotions. However there are some sure-fire conversation rollers thatll make even the quietest ones out there speak volumes, in an extremely animated way. Babes, beaches and of course bikinis are one. Also sports, the adrenalin pumping stuff.

However, if youd really like him to pull out all the stops and get real volubleask, What is it that women do that drives you crazy? Youll be surprised at his decibel level.

And yesfor those honest-to-goodness-answers, keep the girlfriend/wife away.

Some of the most annoying things that men abhor in their women go like this:

Being ambiguous about practically everything, except when it comes to your jeans, jackets, purses and other feminine products. No invariably means Maybe; Yes means PerhapsMind numbing!

Asking us loaded questions like Am I looking too fat in these jeans? and then making us feel like a mean-bean for giving an honest opinion. Then why ask if you have no knack for honest opinions

Turning on the water faucet whenever it looks like you are losing out on the argument. Its like fighting someone loaded with a Kalashnikov the whole thing is terribly lopsided. And we dont ever dare shout at this point or else the dams on us, full forced

Making us apologize for not remembering your dads birthday, your brothers anniversary, your monthly dates, even your dogs vaccination dategenerally everything that is anything in your life. However this does not include the birthday of the hot babe who happens to be your best gal pal.

Making an anniversary out of every thing. First look anniversary, first kiss anniversarywhew!

The two Cs: comparing and criticizing. Especially when comparison barometers are usually an ex-boyfriend (well if he was that good, then why leave him), or a guy friend, or worse, daddy dearest. The last one is really a knock out. Match and game point in one master stroke.

Having the room done up in pink with teddies and posies strewn around. Or worse, go for a totally lived-in look, with rather personal paraphernalia strewn around.

Borrowing our favorite jacket and forgetting to return it. Wearing our fave t-shirt and leaving it crumpled, stashed. Borrowing our Hugo Bosses or Polos and airing out half the bottle. These kinds of free rides make us mad.

Too much of girly talk, giggling. It does not mean that you indulge in brain testers, but hey! Do laugh only when you are meant to. All talk about period cramps, tampons, make-up are put off points.

Make up marathons. We do appreciate your cutie to hottie metamorphosis, but certainly not when all you need to do is go out for an ice-cream.

Drinking and making a total slob of yourselves, especially at parties.

Trying too hard to be sexy and seductive. Men really dont dig the eager-beaver varieties.

Inconsistency. Giving us the come-on and then acting coy and prude.

Cracking OTT jokes at the first meeting, bragging or being feminist-on-a-mission types make men disappear real fast. Subtlety is still in.

A total run down of a womans romantic history is a jerker. Listening in to blast-from-the-past stories gives us no thrill.

Acting Momma. We appreciate the one we have. So dont try and cop roles.

Wanting to be the centre of existence 24/7. Basically insecurity whenever I am away. There are other people/things that I enjoy too…

Birdy appetites. Having to pay for a meal and see half of it left back on the plate is screamingly maddening.

Finally, the tendency to get us talkingnot about sports/cars/work, but about our feelings. Knowing your tendency to overanalyze, this is a devil versus deep water situation because wham! Youd turn things against us in a jiffy.

Also, not appreciating our silences. Just because we are silent does not mean somethings wrong!

http://www.truepuzzle.com is a website for women to come together, regardless of where they live or what they do, to search for knowledge, share their thoughts and have fun together. The difference is that we encourage the male point of view on our site as it will bring variety and hopefully bridge the communication gap between the sexes.
